Ayabe sits in the northern reaches of Kyoto Prefecture — one hour by train from Kyoto City, thirty minutes by car to the Sea of Japan.
綾部は京都府北部に位置し、京都市から電車で約1時間、車で日本海まで約30分の距離にあります。
Surrounded by forested mountains, cedar and bamboo trails, rice paddies, flower gardens and river valleys. The area has a deeply rooted history of textile and paper production, that remains until this day. Nestled on the route between Kyoto and the coast — on the way to Kinosaki Onsen, the fishing village of Ine, and Amanohashidate — Ayabe is both destination and refuge in the Kyoto by the Sea region. Reachable by car or by the JR Obama Line from Kyoto Station.
杉林や竹林のハイキングコース、田んぼ、花畑、川の谷に囲まれています。この地域には織物と和紙の生産に深く根ざした歴史があり、それは今日まで続いています。城崎温泉、伊根の漁村、天橋立へと続く京都と海岸線を結ぶルートに位置するこの地は、「海の京都」エリアの目的地でもあり、避難所でもあります。京都駅からJR小浜線でアクセスできます。
Ayanoma is a kominka farmhouse on the outskirts of Ayabe Town that is being turned into a place for artists — to come and stay, research, and build work away from the familiar.
アヤノマは綾部町の郊外にある古民家で、アーティストが滞在し、リサーチし、日常から離れて作品を育てるための場所へと変えていきます。
The main house becomes the residence. The old barn becomes the studio and project space — somewhere to research, experiment, and make things with enough time and quiet to see them through. A place shaped by the seasons, the landscape around it and the people that inhabit it.
母屋はレジデンスに、古い納屋はスタジオとプロジェクトスペースへと生まれ変わります。じっくりと考え、実験し、ものをつくるための時間と静けさがある場所。季節と周囲の風景、そしてそこに生きる人々によって形作られていく場所です。
The renovation itself is part of the project. Working sustainably, collaborating with local craftsmen and craftswomen, and involving artists throughout the process — letting the materials and knowledge of the region guide what it becomes. What the place knows about itself will inform what it is.
改修そのものもプロジェクトの一部です。持続可能な方法で、地域の職人たちと協働し、アーティストも改修のプロセスに関わります。この場所が自らについて知っていることが、この場所がなるべきものを教えてくれると考えています。
